Justice Minister David Lametti has tabled a bill to ban conversion therapy in Canada.
This had been expected as a similar bill died when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called September’s election. The bill had already passed Parliament but was stuck in the Senate when the campaign got underway.
The bill, entitled Bill C-4 is a beefed up version of that previously passed bill.
Conversion therapy is a widely discredited practice of trying to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
The NDP has already pledged their support for a ban. Half the Conservative caucus voted against the bill the first time it passed through Parliament.
