GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE AMONG 2 ARRESTED AFTER ONTARIO VACCINE SYSTEM DATA BREACH

An Ontario government employee has been arrested following an investigation related to a data breach of the provincial COVID-19 vaccine system.
21-year-old Ayoub Sayid of Ottawa, who worked in a vaccine contact centre and is an employee with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, faces a charge of unauthorized use of a computer.
22-year-old Rahim Abdu from Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec faces the same charge. 
A spokesperson for the solicitor general says no personal health information was accessed.
OPP were asked to investigate after the government recently received reports of spam text message received by individuals, who scheduled appointments or accessed vaccine certificates through the immunization system.
Police warn to always be suspicious of text messages asking for financial or private information and to report any such suspicious activity to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
