Calling it “extremely effective,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared pleased Thursday night in Washington as he talked about his trilaterial summit with U.S. President Joe Biden and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

“I did have an opportunity to directly raise concerns about the proposed electric vehicle tax credit as well as discussing the Buy America initiatives and concerns around the Line 5 situation,” Trudeau told reporters.
Canadian automakers have described the controversial U.S. tax credit for American-made electric vehicles as a potential blow for the industry here, while Biden’s protectionist Buy American rhetoric and Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline are also growing irritants.
In front of reporters and cameras earlier in the day, Biden was non-committal on any changes to the electric vehicle tax.
He said they, “we haven’t even passed it yet in the House, and there’s (sic) a lot of complicating factors.”
The proposal is part of the $1.75-trillion climate change and social spending package currently awaiting a vote in the House of Representatives.
Trudeau returns home to Ottawa on a flight Friday morning.
