John Tory is thanking his fellow Torontonians in reaching the milestone of 5-million COVID-19 vaccine doses given in this city.

“We’re just inches away from having 90-percent of people vaccinated with a first dose,” Toronto’s Mayor revealed Tuesday, “In fact, we’re about 57,000 doses away from having 90 percent getting their first dose and we’re about 150,000 away from 90 percent getting their second dose. And I don’t think people realize on a global context how extraordinary this is. When you talk to friends you have outside of Canada, they will tell you that a 90 percent vaccination rate is truly an accomplishment.”

Team Toronto reached the 5 million vaccine milestone late Monday. A total of 5,002,515 COVID-19 vaccine doses have now been administered in Toronto.

Mayor Tory says the focus now is to get the remaining 1st dose people their second shots, eligible residents their booster shots, and first doses for younger children, once Health Canada approves the Pfizer COVID vaccine for 5 to 11 year olds.

Third doses are also available for residents who are eligible including health care workers, 70 years of age and older, immunocompromised individuals, people who received a two-dose series of a viral vector COVID-19 vaccine (e.g. AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD) and other at-risk populations.

Team Toronto continues to make getting vaccinated as accessible as possible by bringing vaccines to where residents work, live and play, including libraries, community centres, malls and schools. Today, residents can access mobile vaccination clinics at the following locations:

• Main Square Community Centre – 12 to 4 p.m.
• Rexdale Community Hub – 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Amesbury Park Library – 2 to 6 p.m.
• Trinity Community Recreation Centre – 2 to 6 p.m.
• Unison Health & Community Services – Jane Street: 4:30 to 7 p.m.
