The Ford government says it plans to tell Ontarians next week ”when they can expect to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.”
Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeting that out after the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) issued new guidance about who should or may be offered a booster shot.
The advisory panel’s recommending it ”should” be offered to those 80 and older and ”may” be offered to Canadians 70 and older, along with other groups ”who may be at increased risk of lower protection over time since vaccination, increased risk of severe illness or who are essential for maintaining health system capacity.
Those include anyone who got two doses of the AstraZeneca/COVIDSHIELD vaccine or one of the Janssen vaccine, front-line health-care workers who have direct in-person contact with patients, and whose interval between their first two doses was less than 28 days, as well as adults in or from First Nations, Inuit and Metis communities.
