Health Minister Christine Elliott has announced that Ontario is set to lift all COVID-19 public health measures by the end of March, including mask mandates as long as the virus is under control.
“On January 17th 2022, there would begin a gradual lifting of vaccine certification requirements, chief medical officer of health directives and capacity limits in settings where proof of vaccination is not required,” said Elliott. “Other public health and workplace safety measures including masking will remain in place until March 28, 2022.”
And the easing of restrictions begins this Monday, with capacity limits lifted in restaurants, bars, gyms, casinos and indoor meeting space.
The province’s top doctor Keiran Moore says if things go in the wrong direction, the province will change course.
“We’ve set is January 17th to review the data and that will give us an opportunity to review the preceding two months.”
There were 304 new cases Wednesday, the lowest daily case total since the beginning of August and well below the national average.
Meantime, the new QR code proof of vaccinations are in effect today that allow fully vaccinated people easier access to non-essential settings but you can still use the original certificate either printed or scanned on your phone.
As for the funding stand-off with optometrists, Premier Doug Ford is pleading with them to return to the bargaining table.
Ford also promised not to call an early election, committing June 2nd.
