Saying it’s a ”big problem” and something most take ”for granted,” the Ford government is tabling legislation to ensure truck drivers and couriers are allowed to use company washrooms when they’re either picking up or delivering.
”Access to washrooms is a matter of common decency currently being denied to hundreds of thousands of workers,” Labour Minister Monte McNaughton said in making the announcement.
”Providing these hardworking men and women with access to washrooms is a small change that will make a big difference, so they can do their jobs with the dignity and respect they deserve,” he added.
As of last year, there were 203,700 in Ontario working as truck, bus, taxi and delivery drivers and 30,800 couriers, messengers and mail distributors.
