Canadian-British author Rachel Cusk is among five boundary-pushing writers in the running for this year’s Governor General’s fiction prize in English.

The 54-year old, London, England-based writer is on the list for her cottage-set psychodrama, “A Second Place.”

Her competition includes Hamilton-based cartoonist Joe Ollmann with “Fictional Father,” a graphic novel exploring a father-son relationship.

Toronto-based Sheung-King for “You are Eating an Orange. You are Naked.”

Edmonton’s Norma Dunning for “Tainna; The Unseen Ones, Short Stories.”

Rounding out the list is G-A Grisenthwaite, a member of the Lytton First Nation, for “Home Waltz.”

Overall, The Governor General’s Literary Awards covers 70 titles across seven categories in both English and French.

The winners, who will each receive $25,000, will be announced November 17th.
