In his first public appearance since taking a controversial trip nearly a week ago, Justin Trudeau has apologized.
”Travelling on September 30th was a mistake, and I regret it,” the prime minister stated.
He went on to say the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was ”a time for Indigenous people and non-Indigenous people alike to reflect and connect, think about the past but also focus on the future.”
Trudeau says he plans to visit the B.C. Indigenous community in Kamloops where more than 200 unmarked graves were discovered at the site of a former residential school.
While Trudeau’s official itinerary said he would be in Ottawa for ”private meetings” it was later updated to say he was in Tofino to join his vacationing family.
