Ontario residents will receive new guidance for Thanksgiving and Halloween on Thursday, while the province continues to record hundreds of new daily cases of COVID-19.

Dr. Kieran Moore says he will provide more details then, “but in a nutshell, if you’re having family over and you’re completely vaccinated, if you feel comfortable removing your masks, that would be absolutely appropriate in a fully vaccinated group.”

But Dr. Moore is cautioning older individuals who are in groups where there are unvaccinated people.

“If you are older, if you have any chronic medical conditions, and you’re mixing with unvaccinated individuals, I would suggest keeping your masks on.”

Dr. Moore made the comments this morning after announcing a plan to introduce rapid antigen testing in schools that are at high risk of COVID outbreaks.

“It should be a targeted high risk strategy to keep schools open. That is the best advice from Public Health Ontario from our testing team as well as the expert panel,” Moore explained.

He said individual medical officers of health will make the decision as to whether unvaccinated asymptomatic children should be tested in their schools, and with their parents’ permission.
