Users of Facebook and the company’s apps Instagram and WhatsApp have not been able to log into any services since shortly before 12pm Eastern.
A website that collects complaints about web outages says there were over 30,000 Canadian complaints.
Instagram had 21,000 reports of outages, while there wee at least 14,000 reports about WhatsApp in Canada.
Reports of similar outages also surfaced throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Africa.
Soon after the outage began, Facebook tweeted an apology for any inconvenience and that they’re working as quickly as possible to get things back to normal.
This comes as the social media giant was the source of a series of Wall Street Journal stories exposing its awareness of internal research into the negative effects of its products aired on CBS’s ”60 Minutes” news magazine show Sunday.
The whistleblower, Frances Haugen, tells her story to U.S. lawmakers Tuesday.
