30,000 baseball fans can now attend the Rogers Centre to watch the Blue Jays continue the chase for a spot in the playoffs. Ontario is easing capacity limits for sports and event venues that require proof of vaccination.

Starting Saturday, indoor events can increase capacity to 50 percent or a maximum of 10,000 people, outdoor stadiums can operate at 75 percent capacity or 30,000 people.

“And we haven’t been notified of any significant exposure in these types of environments, sometimes it’s difficult to tie them back to one particular exposure but at present they appear to be safe, I think they’re safer with the vaccine certification process and masking,” said Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health.

But Dr. Moore says for now, limits at restaurants will not change. While the government insists there are technically no capacity limits on restaurants, owners argue that with physical distancing, most are operating at 50 percent capacity.

He adds that because of good ventilation at Rogers Centre, capacity will be 30,000 whether the roof is open or closed.

Four out of five eligible Ontarians are now vaccinated which is why the province is now easing capacity limits. In addition, the number of COVID cases have been stable for the last few weeks.
