Toronto’s mayor says 2 days in, the provincial COVID Vaccine Certificate Program has rolled out with only a few issues so far.
John Tory said on Friday morning, for the most part, Toronto residents are cooperating when asked to show proof of vaccination at the doors of restaurants, gyms and other non essential venues.
He also said the calls to 3-1-1 for any issues have been few.
“The number of calls we’ve had have been a handful in number in the first couple of days, which indicates to me that most people are doing what we had hoped they would do, which is they’re being cooperative, those who do not want to show proof are not showing up, or if they do show up, they’re showing proof and not pushing back, and I think that’s as it should be. This is the law, it is a law that is widely supported by the vast majority of people who have been vaccinated,” Mayor Tory told CP24.
Before the program launched, Ontario’s Health Minister Christine Elliott said any employees who feel threatened when asking customers to show proof of COVID vaccination should call 9-1-1.
