There are thirteen COVID-19 outbreaks at Ontario long-term care homes and Minister Rod Phillips will release data on the staff vaccination rate in the coming weeks.
“One of the things that we’ve done quite uniquely, we have the highest staff vaccination of all the provinces so far but the target here really has to be 100 percent,” said Phillips. “Just under 50 percent of homes have already made a decision to put a mandate in.”
Phillips was speaking at the opening of Faith Manor’s brand new 160-bed long-term care building in Brampton. He says Ontario plans to hire more than 27,000 staff, including registered nurses, personal support workers and support staff.
Phillips says the province is on track to begin offering 4-hours of care-per-day-per-resident this January over the next four years.
