An NDP candidate in a key Toronto riding is under fire after appearing to invent and then spread a conspiracy theory about Isreal and COVID-19 vaccines.

Sidney Coles is running in Toronto-St. Paul’s and repeatedly claimed on Twitter that Isreal is somehow responsible for missing doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the United States last winter.

On Sunday, Coles apologizing for posting what she called unsubstantiated theories about vaccine supply linked to Israel.

The apology came after a prominent Jewish human rights organization, Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies, highlighted her posts online Sunday morning.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has not addressed Cole’s comment but an NDP spokesperson says what Cole wrote was wrong and hurtful and that Cole understands this and has apologized.
