Ontario’s health minister says COVID-19 vaccine bookings through the province’s portal more than doubled on the day the government announced its vaccine certificate system.
Ontario’s Health Ministry says more than 7,100 vaccine appointments were booked through the provincial portal Wednesday — double the number from a day earlier.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the province has also administered thousands more doses of vaccine Thursday, compared to Wednesday.
The influx of bookings came as the province announced residents would need to show proof of vaccination to access some non-essential services, including indoor dining at restaurants.
The program, which comes into effect on Sept. 22, offers an exemption for Ontarians who cannot receive the shot for medical reasons.
The CEO of Ontario’s medical regulator is urging doctors in the province to be judicious about handing out those exemptions.
While Liberal leader Steven Del Duca is encouraged “Doug Ford has seen the light,” he told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer he’s really concernedthat it’s still going to be weeks before the policy is fully deployed and worried about the apparent confusion over who it will apply to and under what circumstances.
