There is a real piece of music history that is about to go on the auction block.

That is guitar guru Les Paul, playing a “Les Paul” guitar.

The first approved Gibson Les Paul guitar that Paul himself owned, known as “Number One,” will be auctioned by Christie’s in New York, October 13th.

The guitar was built in the early 1950s and is estimated to be worth upwards of $150-thousand.

Paul was a jazz, country, and blues guitarist and one of the pioneers of the solid-body electric guitar.  His prototype, which he called “the Log,” served as the inspiration for the Gibson Les Paul line of guitars.

Les Paul died in 2009 at the age of 94.
