Lawyers representing Admiral Art McDonald says he plans to return as Chief of the Defence Staff after a Canadian Forces investigation into alleged misconduct yielded no charges.
McDonald’s lawyers released a statement saying he plans to return to the top job saying he has been exonerated.
He was only on the job for just over a month after being appointed in January. Accusations of an unspecified nature surfaced and he stepped aside during the investigation.
He was replaced on an interim basis by Lieutenant-General Wayne Eyre.
Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan says he hopes McDonald will stay on leave while the government reviews the situation.
The nature of the allegation was never publicly confirmed but was reportedly related to an allegation of sexual misconduct.
