Saying he did not want the government of New York state to be consumed by investigations into his personal behaviour, Andrew Cuomo is stepping down as governor.
The 63-year-old Cuomo says fighting back against what he calls the ”politically motivated” attack would subject the state to months of turmoil.
The announcement comes following last week’s release of an independent report that included detailed allegations Cuomo had sexually harassed 11 women.
He apologized for his behaviour but claims the most serious allegations ”have no credible, factual basis.”
”In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone.  I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn,” added Cuomo.
New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will become the state’s first woman governor once the resignation takes effect in two weeks.
