MERENGUE MASTER DIES AT 81

He was considered the master of merengue and salsa.

Iconic Dominican singer Johnny Ventura, whose career spanned six decades and who led a band that’s considered one of the most significant in history of the Caribbean nation, has died of heart attack.

Merengue, which draws on African and Spanish influences, is both a genre of music and a partner dance style.

The president of the Dominican Republic has declared three days of mourning.

Johnny Ventura released more than 100 albums over his career and earned six Latin Grammys.

Johnny Ventura was 81.
