The acclaimed and award winning, long time host of the TV game show “Jeopardy” was honoured yesterday on what would have been his 81st birthday.

A new program called “The Trebek Initiative” was born with the intention of supporting and empowering emerging Canadian explorers, scientists, educators and photographers.

The Sudbury-born TV host had a passion for geographic literacy and served as honorary president of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society until his death from pancreatic cancer last November.

The program will provide more than $400,000 annually to emerging Canadian explorers.
