Two new studies find vaccines are effective against the Delta variant but less so in older people.

The first study  published in the New England Journal of Medicine  indicates vaccines are nearly as effective against the Delta variant as they are against the previous dominant COVID strain but warns one shot is not enough.

Researchers found that two doses of Pfizer were 88 per cent effective at preventing the Delta variant, and 94 per cent against the original virus.

And two shots AstraZeneca were 67 per cent effective against the delta variant and 75 per cent against the original.

But another study out of Israel finds 90 per cent of new confirmed cases were in those over 50 who had been fully vaccinated.

It comes as the country fights a fourth wave driven by the Delta variant, despite more than 60 percent of the population vaccinated.
