A national summit on antisemitism is set for Wednesday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, federal ministers, opposition critics, premiers and mayors are participating along with members of Jewish communities across the country.

Irwin Cotler is Canada’s special envoy for preserving Holocaust remembrance and combating antisemitism.

He is speaking at the summit about the rise of antisemitism not only in Canada, but internationally.

Cotler says he will propose a 10-point action plan to combat antisemitism in Canada.

He says Canada should learn from the best practices and the failures of European countries who have developed plans and proposals to combat antisemitic hate crimes.

MPs voted unanimously in favour of a motion calling for a national summit on Islamophobia in June, following the attack in London, Ontario that killed four members of a Muslim family as they were out for an evening walk.

The government announced it would hold an additional summit on antisemitism on the same day that motion passed.

Irwin Cotler is a guest on this Sunday’s Zoomer Week in Review after the noon news.

Listen for more on both the anti-semitism summit and Thursday’s Islamaphobia summit Wednesday on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer at about 12:15.
