The Ontario Medical Association is calling for mandatory vaccines for all healthcare workers to protect themselves, their patients and the community.

OMA president Dr. Adam Kassam says as a fully vaccinated front-line doctor, he’s proud to stand with his colleagues who continue to advocate for full vaccinations.

But just yesterday, Doug Ford threw cold water on the idea.

“No, I think it’s their constitutional right to take it or not take it, these are super bright people that work their backs off.”

The OMA says a recent survey of the province’s doctors found 98 per cent of respondents have received both doses of a COVID vaccination.

The Association that represents over 43,000 physicians, medical students and retired physicians, says it remains concerned about the Delta variant, which is more contagious and can cause more serious illness.

The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario is also joining the call to make vaccines mandatory all healthcare workers.

Health care workers in Ontario are already required to be vaccinated against several other communicable diseases.
