It was a sea of blue in Toronto as thousand of police officers from across Canada gathered to say goodbye to Constable Jeffrey Northrup who died in the line of duty this month.

The casket carrying the remains of Toronto Police Constable Jeffrey Northrup was carried into BMO field prior to the funeral. His widow Margaret spoke lovingly about her late husband during the eulogy saying he absolutely  loved his work and the people he worked with. She then offered words of comfort to their three children.

“Brennan, Samantha, Mitchell, your Daddy loves you all so much and he was proud of your dreams, goals and accomplishments and would want you to continue loving and experiencing life to the fullest.”

Premier Doug Ford and Mayor John Tory both paid tribute to the late officer and his family.

“On behalf of the people of Ontario, let me offer my deepest, deepest condolences,” said Premier Ford.

“This is a family of character, of strength, of deep commitment  to public service and that only increases my admiration for them and I’m sure that’s true of all of us,” offered Mayor Tory.

Constable Jeffrey Northrup died in what investigators have called a deliberate act while he was responding to a robbery in a parking lot at Toronto City Hall earlier this month. The married father of three served the force for 31-and-a-half years.
