Saying the province has met its vaccination targets for Step 3, and other health indicators have improved enough, the Ford government’s decided we can move to that phase one week today – 5 days early.
In a statement, Doug Ford says ”while this is welcome news for everyone who wants a return to normal” the province ”will not slow down … efforts to fully vaccinate everyone who wants to be and put this pandemic behind us once and for all.”
Under Step 3, there will be no capacity limits for indoor dining but gyms, movie theatres, museums and zoos will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity.
There will be no restrictions on retail or personal care services as long as physical distancing is in place.
Indoor events will be allowed at up to 50% capacity with a limit of 1,000.
Outdoor non-seated events of up to 5,000 will be permitted, while outdoor seated events will have a capacity of 15,000.
Religious services and other ceremonies can resume indoors with distancing rules.
Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore says it is an ”exciting day,” and while we’re making ”great progress,” the Delta variant continues to pose a threat to public health.

”The variants of concern are what keep me up at night, especially the Delta,” sighs Moore.
”I am very concerned that it’s more transmissible, that it may tend to have higher risk of hospitalization.”
