The RCMP has yet to enter what’s left of Lytton, B.C. but early images show there’s little left of the village.
A fast-moving wildfire hit Lytton on Wednesday evening, giving residents little time to gather belongings and flee.
B.C. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth called the damage “catastrophic.”
“I have reports that most homes and structures in the village as well as the ambulance station and the RCMP detachment have been lost,” Farnworth said at a news conference.
“I also understand some residents have not been accounted for and are and their location is currently being investigated by the RCMP.”
Prior to the fire, Lytton posted three-straight days of national record temperatures. Tuesday’s temperature reached 49.6 degrees Celsius.
