Most of Ontario will move into the next stage of reopening just after midnight tonight.

Stage 2 of reopening means stores can have increased capacity and salons and other personal care services can welcome back customers for the first time in months.

The original date for Stage 2 was originally set for July second but was bumped up as vaccination targets had been met.

As Ontario moves another step closer to normality, tourism operators in the province want the federal government to release a to reopen the  border.

“We’ve never needed American tourists more,” said Christopher Bloore, from the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario.

“After 16 months of sacrifice, job losses and lost revenues, operators need certainty on when they can start to re-hire Ontarians, buy equipment, stock and that takes significant lead-in time.”

The border between Canada and the U.S. is currently closed for non-essential travel until at least July 21st.

Provincially, the plan is to move into stage three 21 days after entering stage two. At that time, there would be a further reduction restrictions on gathering sizes and capacity restrictions at businesses.
