A Mississauga Priest has come under fire for his controversial sermon on the ‘good’ done by the Catholic Church in residential schools, his comments shared widely on  social media.

Monsignor Owen Keenan of Merciful Redeemer Parish has since issued an public apology acknowledging the pain and anger cause by his remarks and promises to ‘do better.’

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, a practising Catholic, said she was extremely disappointed by the comments.

“I’m wrestling with how  the teachings of Jesus Christ to love you your neighbour as yourself are reflected in the atrocities that are now coming to light, no apology from the federal government of the church will be enough to undo the havoc in these institutions,” said Mayor Crombie.
