How did a birthday party with balloons and a bouncy castle end up with three children hit by gunshots?

As Toronto Police carry on with their investigation, mothers of young children in the Rexdale neighbourhood near Albion and Elmhurst are dealing with the shock and trauma of the Saturday shooting.

One woman told reporters the children who were at that party will always be scarred by what happened. Other mothers wonder, where are the trauma counsellors?

A group of residents gathered around Toronto Mayor John Tory and City Councillor Michael Ford Sunday night when they arrived at the Toronto Community Housing Development. Many expressed concerns that the community is lacking support from the city both immediately after the shooting and in general over the years.

Mayor Tory explained this morning, there will be support for these residents.

“My heart went out, and one of the reasons I went to Rexdale last night, was to make sure that I could provide comfort on behalf of all of the people of Toronto to those who went through that unspeakable crime committed by people that I hope police are going to be able to track down. And I hope people will help us to tell the police anything they know. That’s very important,” explained Mayor Tory.

An 11 year old boy, five year old girl and one year old child were all shot. The five year old girl had been in critical condition, but has been upgraded to stable.
