He was actually famous for two reasons: obtaining a copy of the Zapruder film of the Kennedy Assassination in Dallas, Texas in 1963,

and putting Mia Farrow on the cover of his first People Magazine in the 1974.

The Zapruder film has been described as the “single most dramatic moment in US history,” and Richard Stolley, through a combination of purposeful hustling and amazingly good luck, managed to acquire the film for Life Magazine which published 31 frames from the footage.

In March of 1974 Stolley published the first edition of People Magazine with its focus entirely on the active personalities of the time.

Richard Stolley has died of a heart aliment at the age of 92.
