As of today, June 16th, Ontario’s borders with Quebec and Manitoba have fully reopened.

An order restricting non-essential travel from those provinces to Ontario through land and water borders expired at midnight.

The regulation was introduced by the Ford Progressive Conservatives in April as daily COVID-19 cases spiked during the 3rd wave.

Meantime, Canada’s Intergovernmental Affairs Minister says Canadians can expect an announcement by Monday on the easing of pandemic travel restrictions.

But Dominic LeBlanc stresses that the current restrictions will be phased out slowly and cautiously, and only so long as COVID vaccination rates continue to increase and the number of COVID-19 cases in Canada continues to decline.

The Trudeau Liberals have already indicated they intend to relax quarantine protocols in early July for fully vaccinated citizens who are eligible to return to Canada.

The current restrictions are due to expire on Monday.

So once you’ve become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with 2 shots, can you go back to living normally?

“What you can do with two doses depends incredibly with what’s happening in the community,” explained Epidemiologist Dr. Ray Deonandan on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Guest Host Jane Brown, “It’s not just about whether or not you had your vaccine, it’s the indicators of transmission where you live. So it’s difficult to create guidelines at the federal level when it depends on what’s happening locally.

Dr. Deonandan adds that it’s still possible for the federal government to offer guidance but he says it has to be a broad framework. He reminds us this is almost over and “let’s not mess it up and because we always have the potential to trigger a small fourth-wave, we need to be “consistent, responsible and conservative” in reopening the economy.
