To avoid a fourth wave of COVID driven by the Delta variant, Ontario must make sure high risk communities are fully immunized.

“What we believe is that protecting regions at high risk of the Delta variant is important for increased first and second dose coverage, this helps control surges and importantly I think as well, it helps minimize the risk of spill over into other communities,” explained Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, Science Advisory co-chair.

Dr. Brown says the good news is cases, percent positivity, and hospitalizations are all dropping sharply.

And ICU capacity is expected below 200 by next month, it’s currently at 450.

Under the best case scenario, cases will be under 500 a day through the summer if combined with 140,000 vaccines per day.

Worst case indicated 2,500 new daily infections is virus spread is high.
