Rapid COVID-19 tests are officially available at some Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Ontario.

The pharmacy chain is now conducting the rapid tests at 40 dollars each.

Unlike the current provincial testing that takes up to 48 hours for results, these rapid tests get results within 15-20 minutes.

The company says in a news release their tests can detect a COVID-19 infection by detecting the presence of antigens or specific proteins on a virus’ surface.

They advise people getting tested a positive test would require a follow up at one of the provincially run COVID-19 assessment centres for final confirmation.

The tests are also being rolled out in Alberta.
