It’s been 100 years since the research by University of Toronto researchers lead the way to the discovery of insulin.
To mark the occasion, that great Canadian scientific breakthrough is being memorialized with the latest heritage minute.
The minute shows scientists including Frederick Banting and Charles Best developing insulin that’s first administered to 13-year-old Leonard Thompson.
He successfully received injections for his type 1 diabetes in 1922.
Millions around the globe with diabetes would eventually be treated with insulin.
The discovery of insulin is seen by many as the greatest medical discovery of the 20th century.
