Toronto’s mayor says he’s sad to have to announce that all major events in Toronto this summer will once again be cancelled due to the pandemic.

John Tory made it official Friday morning, when he revealed the CNE, Taste of the Danforth, Honda Indy, Beaches Jazz Festival and other crowd drawing events are cancelled for 2021.

“We hoped to be in a much better position…but we still probably won’t be to the point where it’s going to be advisable to have crowds of millions of people at events like Taste of the Danforth, of the CNE,” Mayor Tory further explained.

In fact, no permits will be issued for events on public City of Toronto property until after Labour Day.

The timing preserves the possibility of in person events at the Toronto International Film Festival, September 9th to the 18th.

Pride has already cancelled its June events and parade.

As for 2022, Mayor Tory is promising with the city’s help, the Canadian National Exhibition will be bigger and better than ever in 2022.
