In case you were wondering what you’ll be able to do this summer, Health Canada says it’s all dependent on whether the country can meet its vaccination targets.
In releasing its preliminary guidelines, the department says if 75% of Canadians eligible for vaccines have had one shot and 20% have had both, summer can include camping, hiking, picnics and patios but that crowds should still be avoided.
By fall, again, if 75% of those eligible have been fully immunized, expect to be able to gather indoors with those outside your household, attend family gatherings and take part in indoor sports.
Health Canada says the lifting of restrictions more generally is, of course, dependent on the situation in local communities.
Meanwhile, Canada’s chief public health officer says there are signs the country has ”passed the peak” of the third wave.
Dr. Theresa Tam says there was an average of fewer than 7,000 daily cases over the past week; a 20% dropped compared with the height of the surge in April.
