His tenor voice complimented his father’s and sister’s in the legendary gospel group, The Staple Singers.
Pervis Staples has died.
A spokesman for the group announced the death yesterday, saying Pervis actually died May 7th at his home in Dalton, Illinois. No cause was released.
The Staple Singers gained a huge audience with their first No. 1 hit, “I’ll Take You There,” in 1972.
Pervis Staples was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his family in 1999. The group also received a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys in 2005.
Pervis Staples was 85.
