The great Anthony Hopkins has won his first Oscar since he was awarded best actor for playing Hannibal Lecter back in 1992.
This time, the 83 year old Hopkins has been named best actor for his work on The Father as a man living with dementia opposite Olivia Colman, who plays his daughter.
Hopkins was not part of the Oscars’ broadcast Sunday night, but he has since offered his thanks, first by paying tribute to fellow nominee, the late Chadwick Boseman.
“I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman who was taken from us far too early, and again thank you all very much, I really did not expect this, so I feel very privileged and honoured, thank you,” Hopkins said.
The best actress Oscar went to another Zoomer acting legend, 63 year old Frances McDormand for her role in Nomadland, which also won best picture and best director for Chloe Zhao, who becomes the first woman of colour to win the best director Oscar.
