Ontario could be looking at anywhere from 10,000 new cases daily to more than triple that by June.
The Ford government’s science advisers say it all depends on measures taken.
They project under ”weak” public health measures, the number of new infections could crest at over 30,000 a day by early June.
With ”moderate” measures, they could range between 10,000 to over 15,000 daily and with ”strong” measures, like a 6-week stay-at-home order, they could be contained under 10,000.
However, under all scenarios, the province could still be looking at 1,500 to 2,000 COVID-19 patients in hospital intensive care units next month; even if those measures are maintained or strengthened.
That’s double to triple current numbers approaching 700 in ICUs.
If vaccinations are ramped up to 300,000 a-day, which would be triple the current rate, along with ”strong” measures, then daily new infections could be kept to just over 5,000, while trending lower through May and June.
Ontario’s reporting a new record of 4,812 cases.
1,469 are in Toronto, 851 are in Peel Region, 491 are in York and 268 in Durham.
