Doug Ford says a delayed shipment of the Moderna vaccine is to blame for the shutdown of some immunization clinics in Toronto.

“In the east end, they had to cancel 10,000 appointments and in the Greater Toronto area, York Region has had to cancel appointments it really turns into a logistical nightmare for us,” lamented Premier Doug Ford. He says the province can’t plan properly if doesn’t know when vaccines are coming.

A sentiment echoed by Toronto Mayor John Tory.

“And we do know that many of our hospital partners who use Moderna in their clinics didn’t receive a shipment this week and the shortage is very frustrating.”

Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa also says the supply issue is troubling.

“The volumes we need are arriving at a slower and less predictable rate than we had expected impacting clinics across the system.”

The Scarborough Health Network has closed two clinics but says they will re-open when an expected new shipment of vaccines arrives on Monday.

The University Health Network has put registrations on hold for appointments by adults over 18 who qualify for vaccination based on their postal code.
