Ontario Premier Doug Ford is warning people not to make plans over Easter, while hinting that stricter restrictions could be on the way.
“Folks, be prepared, don’t make plans for Easter, I won’t hesitate to lock things down, I did it before and I’ll do it again,” said Ford. “I’m extremely concerned about the situation we’re seeing and the numbers going up and I’m also very concerned about seeing the age group, younger people now in ICU so everything is on the table right now.”
Ford didn’t specify what measures are being considered but adds he’ll consult with the Chief Medical Officer before cabinet reviews anything.
The province has seen rising COVID cases for weeks, fueled by the spread of more transmissible variants of the virus.
Critical Care Services Ontario states there are 410 people with COVID-19 being treated in intensive care units across the province and for the past six consecutive days, more than 2,000 new cases have been reported across the province.
Meantime, outgoing vaccine task force chair Rick Hillier repeated his promise that by June 20th, the province will have a “needle in the arm of every eligible person in Ontario who wants one.”
