The federal government says it does not think COVID-19 vaccine deliveries would be affected by export restrictions being contemplated by the European Union.
The E-U’s said to be finalizing emergency measures, that would give it authority to reduce exports for the next six weeks, as part of its response to shortages in the bloc.
The spokesperson for Canada’s international trade minister says counterparts have assured Ottawa the measures will not affect vaccine shipments to this country.
Meanwhile, India’s reportedly put a temporary hold on exports of the AstraZeneca vaccine made by the Serum Institute of India to meet demand at home where infections are rising.
It’s not clear if this will affect shipments to Canada, which is expecting to get another 1.5-million doses from the Serum Institute by the end of May.
An initial shipment of 500,000 doses, branded Covishield, arrived this month.
