Ontario’s science advisers are joining the Ontario Hospital Association in declaring the province is experiencing a third wave.
The Ontario science advisory table says more transmissible virus variants-of-concern (VOC) account for almost half of new cases and are driving growth.
The group says nearly two-thirds of Ontario’s public health units are now experiencing ”exponential growth”.
Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa is not declaring a third wave, but says the data is not encouraging.

“It’s still early to say (if we’re in a third wave).  Certainly this is not a direction we want to see the numbers go in,” observes de Villa.
Provincial chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams said yesterday Ontario could be going into a third wave but that the extent of it is still developing.
The province is reporting 1,074 new cases — 313 in Toronto, 199 in Peel Region and 101 in York.
