It’s day two of Ontario’s new vaccine appointment portal and Doug Ford provided an update on Monday’s rollout.

“The first day, over 133,000 appointments were made, that’s almost 185 appointments made every single minute, we knew there’d be bumps in the road and a handful of people unfortunately received an error message but as General Hillier said, we identified the issues fast and we fixed them even faster.”

By noon Tuesday, more than 100,000 people 80 and older registered for their vaccine.

Despite his government’s own vaccine priority list to include massage therapists and chiropractors in phase two of the vaccine rollout, Doug Ford is urging public health units to make those 80 and older a top priority.

“We have 34 public health units, all kind of going in a different pace, some more efficient than others, but I encourage every health unit, let’s make sure we get 80 plus over before we get to anyone else,” pleaded Ford.

On the Science Table declaring a third wave of the pandemic, Doug Ford says while he respects their advice, he listens to the province’s top doctor, Medical Officer of Health David Williams, and will discuss this with him. Monday, Dr. Williams said a third wave is yet to be determined.

Doug Ford expressed frustration that AstraZeneca vaccine guildelines have changed to include people 65 and older saying it messes with the provincial distribution plan.

“When we get a change in direction from the feds, which is NACI, National Advisory Committee on Immunization, and they’re moving the goalposts, I can’t believe to tell you the logistics behind it and it messes everything up to be very frank with you.”
