They haven’t been paid in a year, many have been forced to leave New York, 10% have retired and now the remaining members of the Metropolitan Opera’s musicians are facing long-term pay cuts.
While the Met seeks the cuts, it is offering the musicians partial pay if they’ll at least come to the bargaining table to negotiate.
The Metropolitan Opera House has been dark for a year and estimates it’s lost $150 million in revenue.
It is offering the musicians up to $15 hundred a week; half their former pay.
The musicians are said to be considering it.
