TORONTO STAR: EARLY VACCINATION IN ONTARIO CARE HOMES SAVED LIVES

The Toronto Star is reporting on new research that shows a decision to prioritize vaccinating long term care home residents in the province has saved hundreds of lives.


The reports tells of a brief released to the province’s COVID-19 science advisory table shows the vaccinations prevent an estimates 2,600 cases among residents and staff. It estimates 249 patients would have been hospitalized and 615 would have died.

The numbers were released as the province reported zero long term care deaths for the second day in a row.

80% of the province’s long term care home residents have been fully vaccinated. 90% of retirement home residents in the province have received at least one dose.
