Billie Jean King has a memoir coming this summer, and she calls it a journey to her authentic self.

It will cover the highlights of her celebrated and groundbreaking tennis career, including her 39 grand slam titles and her defeat of Bobby Riggs in the famous Battle of the Sexes match in 1973.

“I know every time I walk out of the apartment somebody is going to ask me about the match and they do,” King laughs, “The promoter of the match goes, well you’re a feminist, you probably won’t want to do this, and I said, are you kidding, it’s show time, I love this!”

Billie Jean King, now 77, writes about her activism on behalf of women in tennis and beyond.

“We’re in the 21st century, it’s very different,” King says, “I mean, every five years, it gets better in the United States, but not in Russia.”

She also addresses such private struggles as an eating disorder and acknowledging her sexual identity.

It’s called All In: An Autobiography, to be published August 17th.
