Ontario has announced plans to attract personal support workers to nursing homes and home care.

“We are announcing over $115M to help train an additional 8,200 new personal support workers,” said Long Term Care Minister Merrilee Fullerton. “Six thousand of these students will be receiving a fully, government funded PSW education as well as paid placements for their workplace-based learning.”

While Premier Doug Ford says PSW’s deserve the temporary $3-dollar-an-hour raise, he wouldn’t say if it will be extended when it expires in March.

“Man, I tell you, they deserve everything they got, the three dollars an hour increase talk about lobby, I’ll be lobbying me and everyone else, we need to keep that to keep that three dollars an hour, simple,”

Advocates have been calling for a permanent pay increase.
