Toronto’s mayor is warning against region hopping, now that York Region is in the red control zone of COVID-19 related restrictions.

John Tory explained on Monday morning, that even though authorities cannot stop people from leaving Toronto and Peel, which remain under stay at home orders, he advises they do the right thing and stay put for a while longer.

“Hopefully people will understand that moving either way, unless it’s essential to go to work, is really not going to help us make sure we keep the schools safe, make sure we keep the variants down and allow us ourselves to be in a position in Toronto and hopefully Peel, where in two weeks, we can move forward, as they’re doing in York.”

Toronto and Peel Region are under stay at home and lockdown orders until at least March 8th.

In York Region, non essential retailers, along with personal care salons, gyms and restaurants may reopen but with strict capacity limits.
